Shopping For A Cause: Athleta + United Way
Earlier this month I "shopped for a cause" at Athleta to benefit the Women's Leadership Council here in Las Vegas. I love shopping and I love giving back to the organizations doing work that is important to me. Plus this was my first event as a member of the WLC!
"United Way of Southern Nevada's Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) is part of a global, growing force of over 75,000 women in 170 communities and six countries who have collectively raised over $1.9B in supporting United Way's mission to improve lives and build stronger communities. In Southern Nevada, the WLC has raised over $2.7M since inception, investing their dollars in critical projects which are changing lives." United Way of Southern Nevada works on improving early childhood education, helps see more youth graduate high school, aids adults in furthering their education, works to decrease the number of people considered to be low income, and helps to increase the number of people employed full time.
I have two young children living in the lowest scoring state in education so United Way of Southern Nevada's efforts hit close to home for me. After hearing about the Women's Leadership Council I attended their Fashion Luncheon back in March to meet some of the members and get to know more about how they are involved in the Las Vegas community. I knew right away that the change I want to see in my city was happening with this diverse group of women.
I have never shopped at Athleta before but knowing that 10% of the proceeds were going back to the WLC encouraged me to at least check out what the store had to offer. I found a spectacular pair of high waisted sweatpants with deep pockets. High waisted and deep pockets are some of my favorite words (#momlife). They are made out of Australian Beechwood so they're eco-friendly and so amazingly soft. Shoutout to my BMF (best mom friend, duh) for talking me into buying them!
I have been talking about getting back into hot yoga since attending a sorority event last month and obviously that means I need all new outfits to get motivated. These pants are seriously THE BEST workout pants I now own! High waisted of course, soft but wonderfully supportive, and the side pocket that is large enough for my car key fob AND my phone changed my world.
I paired these life changing pants with this lusciously soft top. (I gravitate toward soft materials.) I normally wear a medium top but bought this one in a large so I can tie it on the side.
To finish off the outfit I bought a blue strappy sports bra. I love the strappy back and I love the color but it has about the same support as not wearing a bra at all. My 32G bra size is incredibly difficult to shop for and many times I end up wearing a bra that doesn't fit exactly the way it should. Once at home of course I notice that the tag says it is best suited for A-B cup sizes which I'm nowhere near. Not sure why the sales associate helping me didn't mention that but oh well. I'm keeping it because the color matches perfectly peaking through the white top and for yoga I don't need a lot of support anyway.
Lastly I found this pair of black biker shorts. I'm loving biker shorts with tees and denim jackets, with hoodies on chilly spring nights, and I'm even pairing them with blazers and killer shoes. This pair is high waisted and long enough to run around with the kids in.
Bottom line: I fell in love with Athleta but know I can't wear their sports bras. I want to know your favorite recent Athleta purchase so I can go back and buy more!
